Asher was my downstairs neighbour, from 2005 until present. He was a lovely, kindhearted, funny, generous (to the extreme sometimes) & overall intelligent person. My wife and I count ourselves very lucky to have had such a neighbour, who quickly became a good friend (or perhaps drinking buddy on a wet Saturday/Sunday evening!).
I have wonderful memories of spending time with him over a couple of beers (and the obligatory rum) listening to his tales of serving in the Navy, and the struggle of the Polish/Russian jews during WW2. I also reminisce about debating with him on the merits of studying social sciences against economics/mathematics and smile when I think about when he referred to me as 'an awful banker'. We shared a lot of the good times, but also some of the bad ones, for both of us in the short time I lived above Asher.
He will be sorely missed, a real friend and wonderful neighbour. Here's to you Asher:
